Creche at HQ

What if we opened a creche at HQ for employees and members of the publics' children?

If we charged a fair market rate this could become a revenue stream to help with our affordability challenges in other areas.

Why the contribution is important

The Council requires new income streams to off-set the reductions in grants we face every year.

This idea matches demand for  safe, affordable, convenient childcare solutions with our requirement for income.

If there was a preschool and wraparound care, I'd use it.

I would have found this helpful when my son was young. I think we should look into this idea.

I would use this service if available.

I would use a creche at HQ, I think it would also encourage mothers to return to work.

What a great idea and a great income maker.
Maybe consider one in key places (Dingwall/Inverness etc) for mothers to return to work.
    Certainly something I would use.

Great idea. Had this at a previous employer very well used and saved staff time and money

I would absolutely love it. At the moment I have to take my boys to 2 different places which takes a lot of time. Inverness College has a creche which is loved by everyone. Why not having something similar in HQ?

I formally suggested this to the Business Improvement Team over five years ago when my own children were young. I have no family support in the area and struggled to find both available and good childcare, so I had to make an hour long round trip before and after work each day to drop off and pick up my children at two different locations, try and fit in a whole day at work which meant I hardly ever had a proper lunch break, all on a full time basis. I would have given anything at that time to have both of my children close to my place of work and would have paid more than the going daily rate at the time for the convenience. If done properly, childcare facilities at HQ could be a great benefit for employees and local families with young children at the same time as creating a new income stream for the Council.

    Great idea.
Staff could pay through salary sacrifice, making it more attractive to them and providing an extra saving to the Council on top of the additional revenue stream. The facility could be made available to partners as well, if take up was low - though I expect the service would be over-subscribed. The main issue would be finding the space needed.

This is a good idea, but what about staff in out lying areas who also have problems with child care.

Good idea. I think this would really help people return to work after maternity leave and maybe encourage some mums to return full-time if they could visit their children throughout the day. Therefore helping with morale and making staff more efficient. Staff returning full-time may also save on additional training, pension, sickness etc costs for the person filling the other half of their part-time post. For info I pay £35 per day for my child to attend a daycare facility run by a 3rd sector organisation which I know for a fact HC are already in partnership with for some children's services (potential for them to provide the staff required). I provide all meals so I know what she is eating and child can be there all day from 8am until 6pm if needs be.

This should be done in schools where we have the facilities already, not HQ.
